More bread
It’d been a while since I purchased a cake of compressed yeast, too, because it doesn’t keep as long as dry yeast. I used some of my bread machine yeast instead. There was a conversion notation on the bottle lid. ...

uhh yeast?
I used Safale 05 dry yeast but did not make a starter. I just kind of dumped it in my carboy and gave it a gentle swirl to mix it up a bit. Fermentation started about 3 hours later and lasted for several days. ...

RE: uhh yeast?
I would just rehydrate the yeast and pour in the wort. You have so much more than a smack pack you don't need a starter for dry yeast. No agitation needed even if you sprinkle the yeast on the wort. I think he shook the carboy to aerate ...

RE: uhh yeast?
The one thing I did notice is when the fermentation did start, it covered the whole top. The last few times when I didn't shake, the dry yeast was very spotted all over the top but not so much spread equally. ...

RE: uhh yeast?
Don't make a starter w/ dry yest. You can rehydrate it but a starter will undo much of the safeguards dry yeast offers.
